This week went by so fast!! We ended up leaving on Friday night instead of Saturday morning so I didn't get a chance to post anything on the blog until now, but I would like to add something about our last day on the mission field. Our vbs this day continued to talk about The Power of our Tongue. We talked about how our words can be like a fire, after hurtful words are said the damage is done and can not be reversed. Also how we should use our tongue and our words to please and praise God. We ministered into the lives of 90 kids this day! Before we left Mexico they surprised me with a birthday cake, which we ejoyed together at the refuge.
Admittedly I was sad at the end of this day, very happy with the vbs, but disappointed that we didn't get the opportunity to hand out the back packs to the children and their families who live near the childrens center, or gifts to the homeless men at the refuge. I love being able to give these people something who desperately need so much, these people have so little. I love being able to be the person sharing these gifts with them, watching the joy on their faces and gratefullness in their actions.
However today as I was in the drive up line at KFC getting our lunch, I looked in the window of the building and their sat a hispanic woman with her toddler, and I started thinking about the people back in Mexico, the children who have no father, the mother who tries her best to care for children. How she must feel on days when there is not enough food, on birthdays when there are no gifts to be given. How lucky, how fortunate we are here in America. How even though we don't look at ourselves as rich, in all actuality we really are. We have so much, our health, a family with a mother and a father, an income, a nice home and vehicles that run, we never have to go with out food, always have clothes that are clean.
And I started thinking about all the gifts and food that we took down to Mexico, and how we didn't get to hand them to the person who will recieve them. And I remembered there is a verse in the Bible, I came home and looked it up, it is in Matthew 6:3-4. 'But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be done in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret will reward you.'
It is so nice to get recognition for what you have done, but we are not taking these gifts down there for us to look good, we are doing it for God to look good. And this year that is exactly what we did. Although seeing the joy on their faces as I have mentioned is a priceless sight. This year, these families will recieve items knowing that they are simply a blessing from God.
